A Game of Cat & Mutton
Last Thursday eve we found ourselves supping pints in the newly refurbed, revamped, and reopened Cat & Mutton on Broadway Market. Under new reign, the pub is now at the hands of Tom Gibson aka MR Ruby’s, famed for his mixology skills and penchant for faded glamour interiors, and The Columbo Group, whose roster includes XOYO, The Old Queen’s Head, Paradise, Blues Kitchen, The Nest and Love & Liquor. Elbowing our way to the bar with the rest of the Dalston mafia who’d turned out in force, hunger pangs were sated with taster teasers from street food champions Licky Chops, who’ll churn out sharing plates with cocktails at the upstairs Pearl bar (named after an old pub landlady Gibson came across in the Dalston Archives). Downstairs, things are very much same-old same-old pub fare, albeit with swankier furniture. As a staple on Broadway Market’s drinking strip, we for one are thrilled to have the old codger open again. Welcome back, old friend. It’s a thumbs up from us.
