Bugged Out: Top 5 LOK Moments
We sat down with Johnno and Charlotte from prolific party outfit BUGGED OUT, about their fav memories from playing Land of Kings over the years…
1. THE FIRST EVER LAND OF KINGS
We DJed with Tayo in Dreams – an old Turkish wedding venue. It was beyond tacky (the venue and probably the music).
2. EROL ALKAN IN THE STONE CAVE
Erol is of Turkish descent so getting him to DJ in the Stone Cave [one of Dalston’s finer Turkish joints] was a master stroke. A rave in a cave (albeit a synthetically made cave) with a side order of hummus with your beats.
3. BUGGED OUT DJING ON DALSTON ROOF PARK
We kicked off proceedings on the Dalston roof gardens in 2012, one of E8’s best venues. Astro-turf underfoot and great views of the pound shops. Highlight was Gilles Peterson asking us what a track was (Gonzales “Knight Moves”).
4. SECRET GIGS IN UNUSUAL PLACES
2manydjs popped up in the garish Magnolia banqueting suite in 2012 – first time we’ve danced on a carpeted floor to them – and in 2013 Richie Hawtin DJed all afternoon in Thames House Car Park. Who’s going to turn up this year?
5. 2013’s TOP TEN ACTION
We took over the ground floor of the Arcola Theatre with 10 DJs playing their 10 favourite dance tunes. It was musically all over the shop with James Lavelle dropping Leftfield’s ‘Phat Planet’ and Skream playing Hyper Go-Go’s ‘High’
