Glasto: The King recommends…
As the weekend approaches, Glasto-chat will get thicker and thicker as everyone gears up for the return of the daddy of all festivals. After a year’s hiatus to give the ground some much needed breathing space after being stomped on year in year out, Glastonbury is back with a bang and a line-up to boot. As always with something so magnanimously spread out, it’s impossible to see everything. It’s also most likely impossible to actually see everything you’ve planned, no matter how meticulous your schedule (which, by the way, you should just throw out now). With so much choice, we thought we’d make it easy for you. Make your way to The Beat Hotel (between the John Peel and Pyramid stages) where, along with our friends at Soulshakers and Gorilla Events, we’ll be throwing an (almost) non-stop shindig from Thursday right through to Sunday with special guest selectors. By day, kick back to a soundtrack of rock’n’roll, sunny balearica and dub. Come nightfall, whip your hair back and forth to cosmic disco, jackin house and beyond.
Here’s our Top 5 for the weekend, but for the full line-up and more info, follow @BeatHotelGlasto.
Check in, kick back, enjoy your stay.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs DJ // Thursday // 01:30 – 0300
If you missed Orlando doing his thing at Land Of Kings this year, fear not. Having smashed his LOK headline slot with a set that got the dancefloor vibing harder than a tribal seance, it’s well worth popping down to The Beat Hotel to get in on his groove. He plays Silver Hayes Dance Area on Sunday, so this is a sly opp to catch him early on in more intimate settings. Other LOK DJs hitting The Beat Hotel over the weekend include Riton, Hannah Holland & Dan Beaumont, Clancy, Soft Rocks, and Hackman.
Simian Mobile Disco DJs // Friday // 01:30 – 03:00
Pioneers, veterans, heavyweights in the electronic mafia, whichever way you spin it SMD are a big deal. Join us and get lost in their mesmerizing, undulating sonicsphere. It’s mighty hard to find your way out again.
Heavenly Jukebox // Saturday // 14:00 – 16:00
The DJ alter ego of Heavenly Recordings, these guys have been firing up festivals, parties and your eardrums with their bulging sack of record greats since 1990. If practice makes perfect, this is gonna be pretty damn tidy indeed.
Rob da Bank’s Birthday Brunch // Sunday // 14:00 – 16:00
Celebrating his big day with us, Bestival’s head honcho spreads the love with a special set to get brunchers boogieing. Come wish him a happy birthday, it’s only polite.
Room Service // Daily // 10:00 – 12:00
From the Balearic to the downright beatless, loose early riser sets by staff & special guests. Plus, tackle Herr Hangry and with fresh coffee and gourmet fast food, including melt-in-the-mouth pancakes and decadent doughnuts, lovingly made by the kitchen-wizards of St John. How’s that for morning glory.
