The Weekend: Rooftop Lovin’
You know there’s a REAL heatwave when clothes stick to skin, thighs stick to chair, hair sticks to face, and a constant clammy shine sets itself down on the forehead. London has been sumo-slapped by a mammoth spell of hot weather that’s put our sunshine revelries in the same temperature band as the Med, and god-damn are we smug about it. If you’re not basking in Victoria Park for Lovebox this weekend, here’s a couple of rooftop shindigs on offer in Dalston. Up yours, Easyjet.
Matsuri @ Dalston Roof Park
Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st July, 3pm – 12am
Matsuri – the Japanese word for ‘festival’ – brings all things foodie to the Roof Park this weekend. Masterchef 2011 Winner Tim Anderson and Fumio Tanga of street-food pop-up Sho Foo Doh are taking over DRP for a bonanza of Japanese street food, cocktails, cinema, music, performance and artists. Expect okonomiyaki, karaage burgers, taiyaki, soft cream, green tea cocktails, animated cinema, nagashi soumen, taiko troupes, illustration drawing classes and Japanese psychedelic soul. Advance tickets have been snapped up but there are more on the door.
Redemption @ Netil 360
Sunday 21st July, 11am-10pm
Sure, the usual way to combat Sunday blues/Saturday night shame/hangover hell is by hotfooting it straight to the nearest pub, head in hands. But this Sunday (and for the next ten), you could do a 180 and try a sin-free Sunday that’s “all nice and no naughty”. I.e. booze-less. There’ll be tunes fit for lounging, nutritious grub, mocktails and guilt-free desserts. There will even be a community kitchen in operation using food that would otherwise be destined for waste. If it all sounds a bit too hemp-sandals-and-wheatgrass, why not give it a shot and see if feeling human on a Monday is worth it.
